The Lion Nebula, also known as Sharpless 132 or Sh2-132, is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, approximately 10,400 light-years from Earth. It is known for its complex glowing clouds of ionized gas and dark dust lanes, which are sculpted by powerful stellar winds. The region is a rich site of ongoing star formation driven by massive embedded stars.
Key Features:
Distance: Located approximately 10,400 light-years from Earth.
Size: Spans roughly 100 to 125 light-years across.
Stellar Sculptors: Ionized and shaped by massive stars, including two rare Wolf-Rayet stars (HD 211564 and HD 211853).
